[opensuse] No security updates for OpenSuse 10.2 available!?
No I also noticed that I have to be subscribed to be able to send a
mail. What a mess ...

Hi,
I'm a Linux user since more than 10 years and have really sufficient experiences with various distributions but OpenSuse 10.2 is just the horror!
It's unbelievable but I was not even able to find security updates!
Let me summarize: * zen-updater doesn't find any updates. Probably I have to add a URL. * The same is true for Yast online update * There is a Online Update configuration in Yast available but after selecting "configure later" it just terminates
If you had selected "Configure now" (or whatever english is there) the code would have added an update mirror.
Shame on you! Normally I would report this as bug (at least against the website) but my last experiences with Novell was that I need to register first and that I even have to specify my (snail) mail address. I will not do so and try to ignore all Suse related bugs that's why (in Debian I report everything, often provide patches but OpenSuse, oh no ...).
Sorry to have you disappointed. A question to this list, to security@suse.de, to opensuse-security@opensuse.org or other addresses would have surely brought help.
Conclusion: I don't need a reply to this mail, I just don't care. But I strongly suggest that this will be improved!
A valid update URL for instance is: http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/suse/update/10.2/ (its not under /pub/opensuse/ for older products). Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Mmh, OK, but I don't want to register myself (the help in the left strip mentions that I register by following "Configure now") and I'm sure this is true for most other users as well!

Security updates are really important, they should not be hidden! I really wonder why even Google doesn't help with such a basic topic. The Debian webteam discussed recently whether the security announcements (which also contains the URLs) could be removed from the top level page and I agreed on it. Now I know it better, they belong to it. How many clicks are necessary to find this information on http://de.opensuse.org? At least 2 ...

Mmh, it's not even possible to add a symbolic link from opensuse/? Jens -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It should actually just work in the product. While the "registration" page is not very clear that it also registers the update service, it should perhaps be enhanced. http://en.opensuse.org/Update_Mirrors is on the english Wiki, (but not in the german) and opensuse.org/Security now links to it directly. Me neither.

Sure it does! http://tinyurl.com/2u2oyv ;)

Is it that much? I don't think so. If someone isn't able to find updates on a home site with just two clicks then how do you expect him/her to configure for example 'bind' by using just scripts? Hi Jens, I have used http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=43378 konvenientSUSE. It kicks ZENWorks. It contains scripts to add the OpenSUSE official OSS, Non-OSS, Updates (Security) repositories. It also contains Packman, Guru, KDE-Backports, Mozilla, Wine, KDE Updates, KDE-Community, XGL, Music and Video codecs, DVD-libdvdcss, Java & Flash. Nvidia and ATi 3D drivers are also included. Smart Package Manager can also be used. HTH :-) Al -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
