Re: [SLE] SuSE v8.2 and Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop
Well, that's what I had surmised, but no joy with the installation right out of the box. I'm not much of a tinkerer when it comes to recompiling the OS, but I've got alot left to learn. Windows 2000 Pro sees the modem fine, so I know the device is working fine. I use the modem lots, so this is a major deal for me to get thru before I can begin a stepped migration to Linux. The next major thing for me is to find out how to use VMWare for my Windows apps that the company is forcing down my throat. Has anyone successfully install this combination and gotten the ActionTEC modem to work?
Thanks, Jeff ===============
Jeff, If the ActionTec modem is a hardware modem, it should work wonderfully! I have the external model and it is a very nice modem. I have used the internal modems they have also, but they were the hardware based, not the "winmodem" or software modems. If in fact it is a winmodem, you may not have much luck getting it to work.

If the modem is a winmodem, there might still be hope according to the chipset used. I believe you can go here to get more info: http://www.linmodems.org/ There might be a driver or at least info that will help you in getting it working. If memory serves me, I believe there are some drivers included with 8.2 on the discs.
