I have had SuSE 6.3 running for several weeks on my laptop with no problem. This evening when I started up however, all of the icons on the desktop were gone. Also, the entries in the tray and in the menu are still there but they don't work. All of the programs I have tried still work if entered on a command line in a console, but when the menu items for the same programs are clicked, nothing happens. A third symptom is that if I try to make a new icon on the desktop, the normal window to enter a name for the lnk pops up, but when I say ok, nothing happens..no icon and no window to edit the program. The only thing I've done today before this occurred was to download and install the 128bit version of netscape so I could access my on-line banking account. The new version of netscape seems to work fine, though on stgart up it gives: ERROR: livc.so.5 cannont open shared object file: No such file or directory I was beginning to think I had Linux/kde sort of figured out, but clearly I've missed something. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! I tried that, and while it didn't work, it may have provided some information. I tried it both in kde and in afterstep and in both cases the result was X Error: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation) 2 Major opcode: 12 and kfm aborts. Any ideas what would cause this. I don't think I've done anything which would have changed kde's setup files since yesterday morning when everything worked find.
