I'm using Kernel 2.4.0-test1 on a non-critical system only. If people didn't try it, then the bugs wouldn't get ironed out. I had only the 1 problem with it - and that was the pppd daemon dialling problem. Updated and everything is fine. In fact, I'm just about to upgrade my ReiserFS to 3.6.6 as I applied the 2.3.99 beta Reiser 3.6.6 patch to this kernel and even that is working fine! :) No hacking as such required. I would only recommend installing Kernel 2.4 at the moment if you really wanted to try the new features - but I wouldn't depend on it as Keith says.
