Hello all! Just got my Sharp Zaurus PDA and was wondering if any of us SuSE users here have used it before? If anyone has any tips/tricks or experiences you could share on using a PDA (especially a Linux one) with Linux, please let me know! :) Thanks! -- Travis

Travis I have a Zaurus 5500 running on Suse 8.1 and XP using Qtopia desktop 1.6.0-1. I had problems at first but have it working now. I tried most of the howto's, http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/jreuter_zaurus_usb.html http://www.ruault.com/Zaurus/ethernet-over-usb-howto.html#suse In Suse I could not automate the sync. I could sync in Suse by running the script by hand following info from the sites above. Then I came upon the program listed below called zaurus_check. Running in Suse this added FTP service directly to the Zaurus plus finally got the Zaurus to auto sync when inserted into the cradle, http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=853 Bookmark the site above for all your zaurus programs. Other good source of programs is http://www.thekompany.com/embedded/, commercial programs well worth the price. Info and message boards http://www.zaurus.com/dev/board/ Murph Worcester MA

oooh yeah .. It's a really great little pda , that *might* make you a little bit nuts until you get a few things installed. for instance a console .. <G> Tho it does deoend on what you wish to do w/ it. I use mine as a substitute for a bloody heavy old thinkpad ... 8 oz. vs 8 lbs makes that a no brainer. I have both a wireless and an ethernet card for hooking into networks where I have permission. I also have a modem for the worst case senarios. Hotel , w/o fast access to the net etc. I can Recomend The Kompany.com for products that are better than what is installed on it when you get it, although they are commercial and want to be paid .. it's not much and you can pick and choose what apps you want etc. I also recommend you get the largest CF cards you can get your hands on .. Much of the stuff The Kompany has can be installed onto a CF card leaving room for things that Must be installed into the ROM . I wouldn't count on getting too much bother about the miniature flash card, sandisk and others, are still rather pricey, and more importantly they are intolerably slow esp. vs anything installed into rom or on the cf cards!! No one seems to have figures out why that is , just that it is so. I have used qtopia for linux for synching. tho the latest one seems to be a bit borkened.. er, the latest one of a month or so ago. I have made a Cf card that contains games ( tune you Z into a gameboy advanced w/ a better screen ,g.) AND also tend to fill many Cf cards w/ music for long plain trips. The Kompanies sound player plays oggs as well as mp3s so you can knock yourself out that way.. And, when you return to a work time , you plonk a cf card into it w/ only business or similar apps on it. Oh yeah, there are those who have compressed a whole movie dvd onto a half gig cf card.! I know that a lot of video stuff plays on it, but that isn't something I've spent a lot of time w/ .. zaurii.net And a bunch of others will help you get to be very fond of this little gem. Well, once you get past what seems to be a long learning curve. HOWever, if you are comfortable w/ Linux and the shell you will soon be on your way to pda heaven <VBG> -- j Afterthought : Computers make very fast, very accurate mistakes
