Hi list. This is a showstopper warning about KDE3. The SuSE build of KDE3 for 7.3 is NOT up to normal SuSE standards. These things will most likely break: aRts ( audio ) javascript focushandler in konqueror non-7bit ( i.e. EIGHT bit ) fonts when used as base language ex. Icelandic/Icelandic -> broken base fonts. If you are not comfortable changing quite a few ( about five or six :) scripts in /etc, one in /usr/X11R6/bin and to fiddle and hope for the things listed above to work, you should NOT install the 3.0.0 version ! All have been warned and I have been burnt. -tosi -- Veni, vidi, vici Mostly every great man in history I came, I saw, I got lost. About every other tourist.
Thanks, best to wait for it to hit the SuSE server, but even then its not official. Noticed some patches for 8.0 already, how long now? 19 days I believe :). Matt On Wed, 3 Apr 2002, Tor Sigurdsson wrote:

I'm getting the same thing, no matter what I do. The KDE bug report centre has this bug splashed all over it, but they seem to think they fixed it ages ago. KDE3RC3 was fine. -- Rachel

Worked OK for me on SuSE 7.3 running under VMWare 3.0. I was dissapointed to see that KMail was still no better, still can't delete the damn preview display. David Bottrill

Edit all references of "kde2" and "qt2" to "kde3" and "qt3" in: /etc/SuSEconfig/* /etc/profile /etc/bashrc To use kde3::kdm Edit /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc mkdir /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm ln -s /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc \ /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm ln -s /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm But I think it's still too bloody broken :-) -tosi

I did this but it still didn't work. Then I found these in my .bashrc export PATH=/opt/kde2/bin:$PATH export KDEDIR=/opt/kde2 After i removed them it works like a charm. Stupid me...
