I'm installing SuSE 6.1 on a professor's machine at my university and have hit a problem. The pc is a P133 with an EtherExpressPro/10 pnp ethernet card. During installation I selected "EtherExpressPro" and configured all the networking options. On reboot, the machine hung when it tried to initialize the card. A hard-reboot was required. I still could not start the system; it hung at the same spot every time. I went ahead and re-installed without the network, and the rest of the distribution is working fine. I checked the SuSE hardware DB, and it states that the card is "probably supported". I also checked recent mailing list postings, but didn't find anything helpful. Can anyone offer suggestions on getting this card to work? Thanks, Alan Riggins

Hi Alan! Im sure you may have tried these but how about installing the card after the installion? tried moving the card to another slot probably best and easiest is to buy a new card at most the cost for a combo isa is $40 basic rj45 for $20 is it worth the aggravation? I just went thru hell setting up a network for a small business.... one card had me going in circles... swapped and it worked in another machine! but not in the problem one Solved it buy buying another card and was done with it. Sorry I couldnt be more help ust my 2cts ;-) rob -- Linux Home page http://www.connix.com/~dizzy73/LBM.htm

I own an EtherExpressPro 100 and I am not 100% sure but when I first got it I did some research on the card. There was a version "a" and "b" of this card, in both 10 and 10/100 types. I am pretty sure that there was some problems with one of them. It even went as far as to tell which chip number on the card where the ones that would work and would not. My chip type is an S82557. It is the one that works. I am thinking that the S82556(guessing ??) is the one that had some issues... This at least should give you a starting point to do your own research.
