Did you following the docs under /usr/share/docs/packages/ndiswrapper? You need to do more then install the driver, you need to also load the module with modprobe ndiswrapper as well. word per word i followed this http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/04/pohletz_ndiswrapper.html this is what i did downloaded this file from linksys sh-3.00$ ls .wine/drive_c/Linksys\ Driver/WUSB54Gv4_20050321/Drivers/WUSB54Gv4 rt2500usb.cat rt2500usb.inf rt2500usb.sys and used the rt2500usb.inf first i nidiswrapper -i driver then i did nidiswrapper -l and i get installed ndis drivers: rt2500usb invalid driver then modprobe ndiswrapper soon after that dmesg shows ndiswrapper :unsoported module tainting kernel ndiswrapper version 1.1 loaded usbcore :registered new driver ndiswrapper then i configured the card with this http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2002/11/wavelan.html then i did ndiswrapper -m currently is giving me this modprobe config already contains directive i also tried ndiswrapper -hotplug then i plug the usb card and i have NO internet and soon it freezes. hope u can help, i really would like this working On Sat, 2005-07-09 at 23:37 -0400, boricua wrote:

first i nidiswrapper -i driver then i did nidiswrapper -l and i get installed ndis drivers: rt2500usb invalid driver
It appears that the driver is either not correct or is not supported.
then modprobe ndiswrapper soon after that dmesg shows ndiswrapper :unsoported module tainting kernel ndiswrapper version 1.1 loaded usbcore :registered new driver ndiswrapper
then i configured the card with this http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2002/11/wavelan.html
How can you configure a card that is NOT seen by the system. The aboce line "rt2500usb invalid driver" tells me the driver is not correct in which case you cannot configure it.
then i did ndiswrapper -m currently is giving me this modprobe config already contains directive
i also tried ndiswrapper -hotplug
then i plug the usb card and i have NO internet and soon it freezes.
hope u can help, i really would like this working
I use a Linksys PCMCIA card in my laptop without problem. Perhaps there are problems with USB cards. Try writing to the ndiswrapper author for further assistance, contact info (I believe) is in the docs. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge

what does that really mean? bad driver, wrong driver? or ?
I think it means that it cannot find the device. At this point then I would say that Linksys USB cards, or at least this one, is not supported. This is a commonly held misconception. Just because you see the name of the hardware in the hardware list it doesn't mean it's recognised. Most hardware include its own name hardcoded. There is a function "what is your name" and that is the string that's printed in the hardware list. Whether or not it is supported by the driver is another question. Make sure the driver you are trying to load is the correct one to use. Most driver CDs for windows include multiple drivers for many different models of cards. Double and triple check that the driver you are trying to use under linux/ndiswrapper is the one that would be used under windows

ndiswrapper and wifi cards do not appear to be covered under the 90 day installation support. http://www.novell.com/products/linuxprofessional/support/conditions.html Your best course of action is to seek help in this forum, there are many experienced users here and my experience is that they will work with you to solve your problem. 90 days from the moment you registered it. Not 90 days from the day one needs support. If you registered 65 days ago and they are saying this then you have a complaint. As far as the installation support. It's just that support getting it *installed*.. not configured. It has never, ever, ever, ever been like this. Not when I first started using SUSE (4.2), not when I worked for SUSE (6.2 - 7.2) and it isn't now. Sorry. -ben BTW. I'm sure somone on this list can help you with this issue. Send an email with all the details and someone will pick up the ball. Otherwise you can get a card known to work. I know Fred and others have spoken of WiFi cards that give no issues. Ben is quite right. I admit to being a little brassed off when I approached SuSE for support some time ago. I had not read the support details properly, slap on the wrist for me, I was in the wrong. It is quite specific. SuSE make their money mostly from selling support to business. This covers configuration. Just think what it's like with M$ You pay at least double the price of SuSE for an inferior OS with an awful lot less in the package. Ask them for help? You'll get an even bigger runaround. I'm assuming it is 9.3 that you registered? If so then check that you are using the correct registration number. It may sound daft but I have found that many browsers tend to keep a list of the different registration numbers in a drop down box. This is when you access the support page online and attempt to file a support incident. If you do have the correct number then SuSE are most definitely at fault for saying your support has run out. You get support nfor installing it, not configuring it, and they STILL TRIED TO HELP YOU...... If I could slap people over TCP/IP/ Let me tell you. If you want your hand held for more than installation, drop some money on Enterprise.

Then take them to task about the installation support. If your having trouble getting it installed. The ndiswrapper thing is still not part of said support though. It's weird that they would say you are out of your 90 days if you registered it 3 days ago.. the data base is usually much better. It could have been some newbie tech support person who had no clue.
