I have no experience with deepview, but you could try this to solve your proble. I'm experience with this problem while running Netbeans on openSUSE 10.3.

Before : 24 bit
Now : 16 bit is OK

Yes which will still kill some applications (ie Opera) and the older Lotus Notes installer.
