[opensuse] usb stick + KDE4 live CD image

Is there a know way to install a live CD image onto an usb stick with: a) not using the whole stick (16GB), but just one partition (e.g. sdb1) for the image b) having additional data partition(s) on there as well I'm not interested in having a 'persistent' live system on the stick, I just don't want to sacrifice 16GB for a 1GB image. I played a bit with syslinux and qemu for testing and got it to boot with that. Only it doesn't boot on a real PC. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

install the syslinux package and use the isohybrid program to change the iso image so it's bootable both as a CD and on a harddisk or USB stick Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I think the OPs issue is that he wants to preserve some existing data on the stick - the method you mention is documented in the wiki or SDB (or both), but I don't think it's able to preserver existing data. (when I've used it, it didn't), -- Per Jessen, Zürich (-4.9°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Correct. I desire a bootable live image on my usb stick + custom partitioning scheme for other data. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I am pretty sure KIWI allows this. I know that I make a USB stick that I can install from (OEM-style), and have the unused part of the stick for my own partition onto which I place whatever. Doing the same thing with a live image is surely also possible.
