Interesting Problem when NFS installing on a laptop
Hi, I was trying to do an NFS install of SuSE7.0 on to my laptop. I used the laptop (and eide and bootdisk) disk images to boot the laptop. The boot proceeded and the PCMCIA modules loaded, including the drivers for my Xircom LAN+Modem Card. But it couldn't connec to the server.. Instead of installing, I decided to run the rescue bootdisk and see what was wrong, or could I even ping the server. On getting into the rescue system I couldn't ping the server. Looking at ifconfig, etc.. all looked ok. So I decided to bring down the networking part and build it myself, again it didn't work! Then I noticed on my server the 10Mpbs was called Ethernet, while it was 10Mbps on the laptop. So when bringing up the eth0 I added the "hw ether" to the ifconfig line. Then everything worked! Is there anyway to force the SuSE Install to do this? Or maybe a way of getting the install to run from within the rescue system? Thanks RikD.
