Hi! I sent a post to this list about how my whole installation was trashed by updating from Suse's ftp site. I'm still pissed about that. I have had to reinstall 6.4 and it's too much trouble to install the XFree 86 version 4.0 and True Type fonts for my TNT2 card. I have a minimal installation now and when I use the command lpr to print the file prints on either my HP LaserJet 6MP or my HP DeskJet 890cxi with no trouble. When I try to print from a webpage on Netscape I get a an endless series of pages with one or two lines of garbage. You know, I have been having this trouble since 5.3. At least this time I did get a mail message that says, "apsfilter: unable to print job stdin" Will someone please explain to me why using the print button on the Netscape GUI sends the file to standard input? And also please tell me how to make this program operate the way it's supposed to operate. I have uninstalled aspfilter, then reinstalled the program to no avail. Same problem. I have been fighting this for two years; I have read everything about printing under Unix/Linux I can lay my hands on and have written to this list before. All help is appreciated. In the popup windown when you click "print" in netscape, at the "Print to:" prompt click "printer", then in the "Print Cmmand: " prompt, put in the field, "lpr" for your default printer, or to print to a specific printer put "lpr -P [name of printer] ie. "lp, djet500-letter-auto-mono, whaterver its alias is". -- Brad Shelton On Line Exchange http://online-isp.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Those are classic symptoms of an incorrect driver. Have you told Netscrape which printer (spooler) to use?

Because Netscape is a kludge. It won't (always) take it's settings for printers etc from the system. You have to tell it where to go.

Well, that is about how end long I've been using Unix, too. (Six months with FreeBSD before I found SuSE Linux (Thanx Pat!) The fact that you have had this problem for so long points to two areas: 1. Your printer port is dead (but you say you can print ok from other programs, so that lets that out. 2. The fact that the problem is isolated to one program, says that it is a config issue. Go through the options menu in NS and see where it is trying to send print jobs to. Chances are that you will find it is sending *all* input to stdin. HTH
All help is appreciated.
TIA
