Heya all, First of all, sorry for the huge post. I searched through the archives but could see a solution to this one [darned nvidia ;o)] so I thought I would ask you guys/gals: I have an NVidia Vanta 16 MB AGP gfx card. I have installed SuSE 8.0 freshly on a machine with the DVD edition of SuSE 8.0. That works fine I have done the YOU to update to the NVidia drivers. I have done the reboot. I have checked the /etc/X11/XF86config file for the necessary lines and changed if necessary [nv to nvidia, and 'Load "glx"'] When rebooting the machine does the normal startup, then goes to switch to KDE. The Nvidia logo comes up, then blinks to black, then blinks to the Nvidia logo, then blinks to back, and eventually just sits on black with no XServer loaded. I have included log files below. I then thought to myself - "Well, lets update the kernel, and download the necessary NVidia stuff from their site" So I got the Mantel kernel [I know it is experimental, but as the original had issues ...] I got the nvidia kernel and glx tar.gz's "make mrproper" "make cloneconfig" "make dep" "make bzImage" "make modules" "make modules_install" "make bzlilo" And then followed the instructions in the NVidia driver packages. The install went fine. I rebooted to enable the new kernel, and the old problem appeared with pretty much identical outputs in the various files. Thoughts?
