Hi! Again me...anybody have an idea how can I save a problem with tooltips in the panel. In the Control Center - Desktop - Panel - Appearance - I have checked just a Enable background image but tooltips on the Panel still show up. In the kickeirrc I have ShowToolTips=false. But if I check Enable icon mouseover effect and after that turn off (uncheck)m tooltips don't show up. I have the same problem as root as user. I also tried to setup new user and problem is still here. Thanks in advance, Mitja
I have the same problem. I tried disabling tooltips in different sections of the Control Center. On 12/14/05, ajtiM <ajtim@wi.rr.com> wrote:

Mitja, I am confused. Are you trying to turn off tooltips but cannot? Or is there a different problem? If you uncheck "show tooltips" that will get rid of the pop-up tips in the panel. If your problem is something else please explain and I'll try to help. Gil

Gil I tried it a few minutes ago, and simply unchecking it does not cause the all tool tips not to show. With is unchecked I still get tool tips on the lock session and logout buttins, but not on other buttons like SuSE watcher. So it is not 100%. (Note that I did not end and restart my session because I have a few processes I need to keep alive. -- Jerry Feldman <gaf@blu.org> Boston Linux and Unix user group http://www.blu.org PGP key id:C5061EA9 PGP Key fingerprint:053C 73EC 3AC1 5C44 3E14 9245 FB00 3ED5 C506 1EA9

Jerry, I don't know what you mean by the "lock session" and "logout" buttons. I guess I must not have those on my bar, because with the "show tooltips" unchecked absolutely nothing on my bar shows a tooltip. With it checked every icon shows a tooltip, the clock shows a tooltip, the multiple desktops show a tooltip, and every open program shows a tooltip. Even the "hide panel" buttons show a tooltip. But absolutely everyone of them goes away if I uncheck the "show tooltips" box. Gil

The Appearance & Themes/Style Enable Tooltips button apparently affects some apps, such as SuSE watcher, and the Desktop/Panels/Appearance/Show tooltips affects most of the things embedded in the panels. Also, I noticed that "Enable icon mouseover effects seems to disable the tooltips.

OK, I added both buttons and checked to see if tooltips appear. They do. When I uncheck the box "show tooltips" the tooltips disappear, including those that had been appearing on the "lock session/logout" buttons. So at least on my 9.3 system unchecking "show tooltips" will remove ALL tooltips from the bottom bar. Gil

Here's a solution you might try: cd ~/.kde/config grep -i tooltip * You will see a number of files with "ShowToolTips=true" and some with ToolTipContent. Try changing all the trues to false and restarting KDE. AFAIK, the 2 places in the control panel should work on all systems, as they did when I tried it. -- Jerry Feldman <gaf@blu.org> Boston Linux and Unix user group http://www.blu.org PGP key id:C5061EA9 PGP Key fingerprint:053C 73EC 3AC1 5C44 3E14 9245 FB00 3ED5 C506 1EA9

I have: kdeglobals:EffectAnimateTooltip=false kdeglobals:EffectFadeTooltip=false kdeglobals:EffectNoTooltip=true kickerrc:ShowToolTips=false kwinrc:ShowToolTips=false
