I have been given the go-ahead to replace our MS Exchange server with a SuSE based sendmail server (which is already in place, just forwarding to Exchange). Now users are just going to pop their mail from the SuSE box. However, I need virus checking done on the SuSE box. I was told McAfee has a product that does this, but it cannot scan attachments, only message bodies. Does anyone know of any Unix based products that can perform the functions of the Virus Scanning packages for MS Exchange? (Or can this be done with scripts and virus patterns?) Thankx, CC
Yes, check out http://www.hbedv.com. I am using the AV mail gate which
sits in front of Sendmail and checks the mail before forwarding it to
Sendmail Works great and it caught quite a few mails with attachments
containing Windows viruses.

Hi, We've been using Trend Micro's VirusWall for years now. While we've been using it with Solaris, they have a version for Linux. I've give them a shot at http://www.trendmicro.com. Regards, Lew Wolfgang SPAWARSYSCEN San Diego On Fri, 30 Mar 2001, Just Another SuSE User wrote:

When I first installed my Sendmail server I used "AMaViS Scanmails". http://aachalon.de/AMaViS/ this is a script that works as your LOCAL delivery agent. It will extract attachments from mails delivered locally, pass them through any number of different virus scanners you may have installed, then pack the attachment back onto the email and deliver it via procmail, (or whatever local delivery you use.) I haven't used it for some time now, but it worked well for me at the time. I imagine a newer version has been released since my experience, so I'm eager to hear any additional comments others may have. I hope this helps. ~Dale ________________________________ Dale Schuster MIS Manager Lake Tahoe Horizon Casino Resort dschuster@horizoncasino.com
