[opensuse] Accessing User Directories in Apache
I need to access user directories on my 12.3 installation. I got this working fairly easily some years ago, probably around version 7 or 8, but I've spent a lot of time going around in circles. I can sort of get access with a virtual server, but I can't get the index file to auto-load and I want this to be available as easily as possible from a DVD player or other streaming device into my home theater system (maybe Roku would help). Because of the size of the files, I need to be able to access them on other drives and that is also a problem I just can't get past this time around. It was so easy last time I tried to do this. I've gone through the Suse Apache documentation and it really doesn't seem to address this in any way that I can see or understand. I'd be happy with being pointed to documentation that addresses this. I found lots of questions about this subject with Google searches and very few answers, and most solutions are Ubuntu specific and haven't worked for me. I've also read in the Suse documentation that this functionality is turned on by default, and my Yast2 setup shows "directories" are enabled. I'm trying to serve mkv files from non-copy-protected DVDs. This is a bit different from my earlier question about serving copy protected BD disks where I've decided that it's much easier, legal, and much more cost effective to pay for VUDU streaming for my BD and DVD collection. The disks I'm trying to do are music instructional DVDs that will almost certainly never have VUDU or other streaming service support. You didn't show us any snippets of your apache config nor you described what happens - and what shows up in the logfiles - when you try to accesss e.g. http://your-server/~user/some.file, therefore all I can give you is this: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/mod/mod_userdir.html Have a nice day, Berny -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
