Hi all! When I try : #mount /cdrom I get the error: "special device /dev/cdrom does not exist" and so i tried: #mount /dev/hdc /cdrom -t iso9660 and got error: "/dev/hdc: unknown device" (I've always been able to use my cdrom on /dev/hdc) Trying all the other /dev/hd*'s didn't yield much luck.... Does anyone know what could be wrong? ---- Greg, CFI(U) ,,, /'^'\ ( o o ) oOOO--(_)--OOOo----------------------

do you use scsi-emulation at all? maybe for cd writing?
and so i tried:
#mount /dev/hdc /cdrom -t iso9660 and got error:
"/dev/hdc: unknown device"
(I've always been able to use my cdrom on /dev/hdc) Trying all the other /dev/hd*'s didn't yield much luck....
Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Someone deleted /dev/hdc, or changed the major/minor numbers? If you don't know how to check this, run ls -l /dev/hdc, and post the results. Someone changed the BIOS to disable the secondary IDE controller? Have you changed kernel recently? Maybe you did something wrong when you configured the kernel? -- David Smith | Tel: +44 (0)1454 462380 Home: +44 (0)1454 616963 STMicroelectronics | Fax: +44 (0)1454 617910 Mobile: +44 (0)7932 642724 1000 Aztec West | TINA: 065 2380 Almondsbury | Work Email: Dave.Smith@st.com BRISTOL, BS32 4SQ | Home Email: David.Smith@ds-electronics.co.uk

No

After the last time, i upgraded the kernel, the cd was working. I'll have a look at it though thanks...
