Hello, I'm currently running kernel 2.2.13 from SuSE 6.3. I downloaded k_deflt.rpm and installed it. This is the new SuSE kernel 2.2.16. Added lines into lilo.conf and ran lilo. Booting the new kernel resulted in the system saying there was a problem with my scsi partition. I do not boot from scsi but have it mounted to contain archive files. I do not think there is a problem with the scsi partion because when I boot to the original kernel (2.2.13) there is no problem, the scsi partition mounts automatically. However, looking into /var/log/boot.msg I see the following: <4>Configuring Adaptec (SCSI-ID 7) at IO:330, IRQ 11, DMA priority 7 <4>scsi0 : Adaptec 1542 <4>scsi : 1 host. <4> Vendor: SEAGATE Model: ST51080N Rev: 0913 <4> Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 <4>Detected scsi disk sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 <4> Vendor: CONNER Model: CTT8000-S Rev: 1.17 <4> Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 <4>Detected scsi tape st0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 6, lun 0 <4>SCSI device sda: hdwr sector= 512 bytes. Sectors= 2109840 [1030 MB] [1.0 GB] <4> sda: sda1 <4>Detected scsi disk sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 <4>Unable to get major 8 for SCSI disk It appears there is some sort of problem associated with the scsi disk, see last 2 lines above. Near as I can tell the lines applying to the scsi disk in /etc/modules.conf are the following: alias scsi_hostadapter aha1542 alias block-major-8 sd_mod Can anyone tell me what additions or changes I need to make to my system to remove the boot message about not being able to get major 8 for scsi disk. I'm hoping if I solve this problem it will lead me to solving the problem of not being able to boot with kernel 2.2.16.
