Can anyone suggest an MFP server for my HP Photosmart 3110 that is compatible with opensuse and Windows 7 for printing and scanning? -- Paul Groves -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Why not go direct to the source: http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/photosmart/photosmart_3100_serie... If your version includes network attach (wifi/cat5) then you don't even need to install anything as far as a print server, just let each machine print directly to it. There are hplip packages for OpenSuse -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I think you may have misunderstood The printer is working correctly sharing from one computer to the other, but I have to turn on the host PC every time I want to print and I can only scan on the host. This is why I am looking for a print server to share my USB printer the over network with capabilities for scanning and printing. -- Paul Groves -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This is why I am looking for a print server to share my USB printer the over network with capabilities for scanning and printing. I think what you want is a router. You plug the router into your cable connection, and each of your computers AND the printer into the router--assuming the

You connect all the computers to the router, and the print server to the router also. The output of the print server, which will be usb or parallel printer connection (or both, most likely) will go to the printer. You never turn off the router or the print server, or the printer, but you can turn off any computer and print from the remaining one(s). You may have a problem accessing the printer thru the print server if you are trying to do it from Windows. I can't help with that; one of the Windows lists should be able to tell you how, or maybe the instruction sheet that came with the print server device will show you how. --doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Help me here: John is talking about a network connection and you are talking about a USB connection. Is that right? Nothing on-line I find googling leads to to believe that the 3100 has an Ethernet port. All John says about networking under "IFI" is correct. My Brother printer is networked rather than being tied to one machine. My Ethernet switch has a USB port but I've never used it for anything ... -- recursion (n): See recursion. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Would have helped had you mentioned it only supports USB from the get go. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It seems after researching this very thoroughly that my USB printer is just too old to be compatible with a print server (without having to use a desktop PC). However, I have a USB over IP device from Digi (Anywhere USB/5 Gen1). Does anyone know where I may obtain driver and software for linux for this device. It works perfect with windows. Alternatively does anyone know of a USB over IP device compatible with Windows and Linux? -- Paul Groves -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
