RE: [SuSE Linux] pppd setup

I *think* the trick is to use kppp which takes care of most of the necessary set-up for you. When I called SuSE and told them I was trying to use diald, etc. they told me just to use kppp and its GUI based ISP configuration instead.
I've yet to get round to configuring ppp and I don't much like KDE so I'm using Window Maker. Presumably I can't use kppp in this case, is that right? If so what other method is recommended. I've tried the susePPP setup with YaST and that doesn't seem to work at all. You may use kppp with other wms. Just start it from the command line. lunaslide * PGP key->pgpkeys.mit.edu port 11371 * * * * * * * ...the really profound changes in human life all have their ultimate origin in knowledge pursued for its own sake. * * * * * -Alfred North Whitehead * * * * * * * * - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

You can use kppp with WM as long as the base kde files are installed. I recommend that everyone attempting a dialup ppp connection look closely at WvDial. About the only place it won't work is Compuserve, and AOL is close to impossible. WvDial virtually automates the process from probing your modem, configuring init strings best suited for what it's found, and all you have to do is enter your ISP phone number, your username and your password. WvDial works in KDE, WM, and is superb in the window manager I'm using: UDE (the Unix Desktop Environment.) WvDial's URL: <A HREF="http://www.worldvisions.ca/wvdial/"><A HREF="http://www.worldvisions.ca/wvdial/</A">http://www.worldvisions.ca/wvdial/</A</A>> UDE is at: <A HREF="http://www.ude.org"><A HREF="http://www.ude.org</A">http://www.ude.org</A</A>> HTH -- Sandy Seeds Going there today with SuSE Linux! - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Hi Steve- You have a couple of options for dialing. You could get X-isp which does a mighty fine job of dialing and is easily built on SuSE 5.3 or you get wvdial which also works quite well here. I would suggest getting both, trying them out, and seeing which one suits your fancy. -- Michael Perry mperry@basin.com ------------------ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
