[opensuse] Supported USB3 to DVI/DP converters to have 3 external monitors?
Hi folks, it turns out connecting three monitors wasn't quite as straightforward as I naively thought, having misread Lenovo's compatibility sheet - I want to connect 3x 2560x1440 (Dell U2515H) monitors, but my T440s can only drive two of them at full resolution even with the Ultra Dock. Using a VGA-to-DP adapter would work, but I'd loose some of the resolution and only get 1080p or so. Not the preferred result. So, for one of them, I'd be happy enough if it had a lower refresh rate and connect it via USB3 to DVI/DP adapters. (Mainly for reading documentation and so on.) Those adapters - like the Wavlink USB 3, Cable Matters, etc - only support Windows/Mac, and there's a proprietary driver for Ubuntu (DisplayLink). And I could only find some semi-happy results from 2015 on the opensuse-factory list. Has anyone re-tried this recently? (Hints as to which laptops do support 3 external monitors with less pain on Linux are also welcome, but I think a lower budget solution would be good in the interim ...)
