Removing Windows partition and using it for /usr
Is there anyway that I can delete my windows partition as I have not booted into it for a long time and use it for /usr as it is 17gb in size or would I be better to use it for /home Sean -- I wish I was on a Cincinnati street corner holding a clean dog!

I'd be more likely to use it for /home to make sure your personal settings and data are easy to preserve across updates and/or system failures. As to deleting the windows partition and re-using it: -unmount it -remove the entry from /etc/fstab -format it -make a new entry in fstab -mount it the only complication is that if you are going to use it for /home or /usr you will need to mount it elsewhere then copy the contents of the old directory to the new partition before mounting the new one over the original mountpoint. After a few days of use you can temporarily unmount it and delete the contents of the old directory. Dylan

Personaly I just rename/reformat (change the file system) and make a sym-link between my /home/user directory and the renamed directory. -- Alain Barthélemy cassandre@bartydeux.be http://www.bartydeux.be Linux User #315631

What I was thinking of doing was booting in in only console mode and not logging in as a user but as root, rename the partition as /home and copy the existing /home over and removing it. Yeah it give me a big /home on a laptop but then I think I will find something to put in it :) Sean -- Where's th' DAFFY DUCK EXHIBIT??

The Yast partitioner should be able to reformat it to Reiser or ext3. Use it for /home, as usr won't use anywhere near that amount of disk space.

Yeah think this is the route I will take, just have to boot into the windows partition just to check that I haveeverything I need and make a quick backup of it Sean -- My Aunt MAUREEN was a military advisor to IKE & TINA TURNER!!
