Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Anyone with stable X windows using STB Velocity 128 AGP version?

I am using the latest XFree86 XSVGA server that includes support for the Nvidia Riva128 chip used in the Velocity 128, Viper V330, and ASUS 3D Explorer video cards.
One of my machines has a Velocity 128 AGP version and I am having difficulty getting a stable display. Using xf86config from SuSE, I have generated a XF86Config file. X starts up w/o any errors. However, the display is jittery e.g. the vertical lines of the window panes display a jerky motion in the horizontal plane. I have read thru the README file for the chipset and tried all the tricks mentioned there and even run it in un-accel mode. The problem does not go away. However, the display is fine under Win95:( Thus, I cannot blame it as a hardware problem.
On another machine, I have a Viper V330 PCI version. X works great on that machine.
Has anybody else experienced this problem with Velocity 128 or it's equivalent (see above) AGP version? If so, were you able to solve it and
how?

I had this card in my new system and I am returning it to the PC Vendor. Reason: X would not work on it. I spent a week trying to make X work on it. The maximum resolution I could get was 320x200. How much more bloated windows could you ask for? When I tried any resolution higher than 320x200, the X Server could crash. The key error message was (--) SVGA: PCI: Unknown vendor (0x110b) Unknown chipset (0x0004) rev 65, Memory @ 0xf0000000 (--) SVGA: chipset: generic The system would never recognize the Velocity STB 128 card. The XFree86 FAQ suggest that there are IRQ conflicts for the RIVA chipset based AGP cards. I changed the Sound and Ethernet cards to different slots and the problem still persisted. Some people claim that it worked for them, by switching other cards to different slots OR by setting IRQs in the PCI BIOS. If you are going to use a AGP card, use anything other than STB Velocity. The support is not good for it yet. Looks like, Matrox AGP card has good X support. I decided to wait till better X support for AGP is implemented. Until then, I am back with the "Good Old ISA Mach32" ;-) Hope this helps. I have the CD-ROM for S.u.S.E. 5.1 but due to various circumstances I don't have a CD-ROM drive nor can I afford one just now. So... can I download what I need to install the OS from some ftp site? If so, where? Thanks in advance! Jeff - jefffoy@juno.com NOTE: I am responsible for the text above the line of X's below ONLY.
