smppd reconnect problem
I posted a question a while back, and did nor receive any satisfactory answer. My setup: SuSE 8.1, Adsl via speedtouch usb, smppd (kinternet) My problem: as the following log shows, my ISP (skynet.be) resets the connection every 2160.2 minutes. This is a problem, since I have a personal webserver. How do I convince pppd to reconnect automatically? Solution: insert the following lines into /etc/sysconfig/network/providers/dsl-provider0 AUTO_RECONNECT="yes" AUTO_RECONNECT_DELAY="1" AUTO_RECONNECT_EXITS="0" Problem 2: it does not work, and I have to reconnect manually. thanks FX Appendix: my kinternet logfile, showing connection resets. man pppd for the options you need, put them in the appropriate /etc/ppp/peers/ file (pppoatm it looks like). It appears it is your machine that is disconnecting (peer) and NOT your ISP (remote). I don't have dsl (yet), so this is NOT based on dsl experience, but dialup/dialin experience. No, the word peer could refer to either side. PPP means Peer to Peer Protocol. It is a communication between peers, as opposed to client-server. In this case it looks to me like it's the remote peer that's hanging up

Sorry, temporary brain damage. It's the Point to Point protocol, obviously

This still stands though
