[opensuse] google search result links
Hello: Recently when I want to copy a google search result link to the clipboard, using the browser's copy link address (opera 11) or copy link location (firefox 7) option, the resulted link is a mystic redirecting google url address instead of the link url. For example if I search for "opensuse" and "list" in google, the first result is: openSUSE Mailinglist Archives lists.opensuse.org/ - Cached opensuse-factory-base, English, List of the developers of the openSUSE:Factory devel project Base:System. opensuse-factory-graphics, English, List of the ... The address of the link is "http://lists.opensuse.org/". If I copy the address using copy link location I get: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=list+opensuse&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CB8QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Flists.opensuse.org%2F&ei=CgTeToeaK6Pe4QTZq7HwBg&usg=AFQjCNFQwoEyghbSDj908776wWD_RIE-uw This is very annoying and makes difficult to copy/paste search result links into other documents. Is there a way or trick which could recover the previous behavior, the copying of the real address instead of the redirecting address? Hmm, Google made this intensely annoying change a long time ago.

Another option if you are using Chrom{e,ium} or Firefox is to install greasemonkey[1] and then the googlePrivacy[2] script, this does what you want without totally disabling js which you might need for other parts of google. I click in the url bar, hit <ctrl>a then <ctrl>c and only get the "real" address I want to paste added to klipper. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This is how google measures the effectiveness of their search results. They hit their site, count the hits, then send you on to the target. If you want the actual url, open the site first then copy and paste the actual URL. Yes it is annoying, but so many other "search engines" were simply scraping google results (I'm looking at you Bing) that they felt they had to do this.
