poor man's document server question
Can anyone suggest a good fax/scanner/printer multifunction device that works well with Linux (SuSE 7.1 still)? It has to be a multifunction because I don't have space for separate units. Ideally I'd like to set things up so that I can dump a handful of pages into the hopper, press a button or two on the scanner, and come back in a while and find all the pages scanned into files somewhere on the Linux box's hard drive - like one of those $$$$ document servers, only -much- cheaper. :)
Ok, I guess this isn't a popular item in linux-land. Nevertheless.. while shopping yesterday I saw a Brother MFC-5100c. It's a nice looking model with both a parallel port and a USB port for a decent price. What are my chances of getting that working on Linux, at least for printing via the parallel port? If I can get that much working I figure I can use my laptop on the USB port to scan. I've currently got an old HP560c working via lp0 w/cups so it would seem an easy changeout there. However, I don't see a cups ppd for the 5100 in the cups-drivers-1.1.6-92 rpm that came with SuSE 7.3 or the .6-105 update.
