epson perfection 2480 & 3490
I have access to these two epson scanners an see from the sane webpage that they are supported. In the hardware scanner detect it seems to see an epson scanner there but can not seem to get it to work Just wondering if anyone here has either of these two scanners working. Thanks jack

jack I'm not having problems with those scanners but with an Epson cx6600. sane-find-scanner finds it. scanimage does not. Sane apparently finds it but says its unconfigured and the epkowa driver does not activate the scanner even though it says its supported. The iscan table has the wrong product id, but changing it to the correct one, doesn't help. I've also tryed iscan-free but get the same conditions. Tried playing with the permissions (like 9.1 required) but that did not help.
If you find a solution please post it!

I have the Epson Perfection 2480 working using 10.0. To get it working I first made sure I'd installed sane, sane-frontends and iscan. Then under hardware->scanner I configured my scanner, picking 2480 PHOTO and the driver epkowa. After doing this, my scanner works just fine with Gimp[0], using xscanimage. I'm not sure if there are other scanner front ends although Kooka is the program called when picking Scanner from the KDE->Graphics menu. Unfortunately, Kooka doesn't do anything and, trying to select a scanner with it results in no apparent action. [0] while Gimp doesn't like 48bit colour (16bits per channel) scanning, 24bit colours are just fine.
