[opensuse] 11.4 zypper dup, where does it land me
Regularly zypper dup without much of a problem. I know I live dangerous with my setup but up to now no problem. I have following repositories involved but now just wonder where I end up. Somewhere close to 12.1? Improvements or comments about my repositories? # | Alias | Name Enabled | Refresh ---+---------------------------+------------------------+-----+---- 1 | Factory_KDE | Factory KDE | Yes | Yes 2 | Factory | Factory | Yes | Yes 3 | Factory_EXtra | Factory EXtra | Yes | Yes 4 | Java | Java | Yes | Yes 5 | Kernel_of_the_day | Kernel of the day | Yes | Yes 6 | Mozilla | Mozilla | Yes | Yes 7 | Packman Repository | Packman Repository | Yes | Yes 8 | Packman_factory | Packman factory | Yes | Yes 9 | Extra_KDE | openSUSE BuildService-KDE:Extra | Yes | Yes 10 | libreoffice-stable | Stable LibreOffice repository | Yes | Yes 11 | UpdatedApps |openSUSE BuildService - KDE:UpdatedApps |Yes| Yes 12 | lxde | openSUSE BuildService - LXDE | Yes | Yes 13 |opensuse.org-standard | Main Repository(Contrib)| Yes | Yes 14 | google-chrome | google-chrome | Yes | Yes 15 | google-earth | google-earth | Yes | Yes 16 | google-talkplugin | google-talkplugin | Yes | Yes 17 | no_ii | playground unstable | Yes | Yes 18 | openSUSE:11.4 | openSUSE:11.4 | Yes | Yes 19 | opensuse-guide.org-repo | libdvdcss repository | Yes | Yes 20 | printing | printing | Yes | Yes 21 | videolan | videolan | Yes | Yes -- Linux User 183145 using LXDE and KDE4 on a Pentium IV , powered by openSUSE 11.4 (i586) Kernel: 3.2.0-rc2-2-desktop experimenting with 12.1 LXDE WM & KDE Development Platform: 4.7.3 (4.7.3) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Crazy man, Do you know what factory is? It is the r&d release for opensuse. Right now in the r&d timeline, it is in wild, wild west condition. Ie. Software with known bugs (ie. very limited testing) can be pushed to factory so that devs can test and work out issues inside the latest future version. That is what you are running. Factory is a complete repo vs. 11.4, so you have left the sanity of 11.4 behind, skipped right passed 12.1, and are living squarely in the wild, wild west. Good luck cowboy,
hehe, yippie ya yeah ;) There is a way back out of your current setting. Back to a bit more let us name it 'sanity'. If zypper, the command line tool still works. Disable all repositories. And only add the 12.1 oss, non-oss and update repositories. Then call "zypper dup" and after the suggested packages got installed your're back on the 12.1 ground. Then ensure to run with btrfs and check that your have a /.snapshots/ directory. And check that the snapper package is installed. That's the hottest feature openSUSE 12.1 and SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP 2 have to offer. See for example these threads http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2011-11/msg00883.html and http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2011-12/msg00618.html Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany
