RE: [SLE] Two problems with Star Office 6.0 off SuSE 8.0 upgrade disk
From the SO 6.0 FAQ:
35. Q. Why does the StarOffice 6.0 software exit when I close a document? A. Since StarOffice 6.0 software is focused on documents, it needs to exit when you close the last document. If you want to have StarOffice 6.o software up and running all the time, open a document that you never work on and keep that open. Seems like strange behavior to me.... Hi, everyone. I just upgraded my Star Office from 5.2 to 6.0 using a CD from SuSE (compatible only with 8.0).
The installation went fine, and the program works OK so far except for two problems. Any ideas on these:
1) If I have two documents open (e.g., I am editing between them) and then I close one of the two, everything is fine. However, if I only have one document open and then close it (either with save or save as), it closes Star Office. This happens every time I have one document open. Even if I just open the document and don't make any changes, when I close the file the entire Star Office program shuts down.
Is there a known fix for this?
I've seen this happen in OpenOffice as well (not just on suse) so you'll just have to get used to it. -- Stephen Patterson Whom computers would destroy, they must first drive mad. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com

Hi Gil,
Mike, thanks. That's just about the silliest thing I've ever come across -- especially since 5.2 did not have this rather odd "quirk. "
SO 6.0 is designed in a different way to SO 5.2: 5.2 had a desktop-like environment where everything was accessible but then as (apparently) many people didn't like this they changed it to be more like MS Office (or at least from version 2k of it): displays a copy per document rather than a base program and open documents within it. Maybe if enough people register the liking for that old feature they'll bring it back in the future as an option. :) Stranger things have happened.
