[opensuse] Legacy Nvidia Driver 340.102 does not compile under Leap 42.3
After updating to Leap 42.3, Nvidia leagcy drivers do not compile. There is an error message loading the kernel due to incompatible sources. In TW, this was resolved by applying patches to Nvidia's source files. Does anyone on this list know if any patches have to be applied to 340.102 version of the drive to install and load under 42.3? Just a polite request. Please email to this list and not me personally. The Nvidia install script generates this error. It is the installation script that tries to "load" the module. I am not qualified to give a more complete answer as I am not an expert in this field. Thank you very much for your response and helpful links. I was searching for "opensuse leap and kernel 4.4.76 issues". This was incorrect and your choice of search terms is better. I will read through the links found and post if I am successful. Once again, thank you. Try removing drm-kmp-* packages. But I suspect it is not your problem. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))

Thank you Carlos and Patrick. I did indeed remove the drm packages. Nvidia drivers compiled and installed successfully. I also installed the Nvidia repo and installed those drivers. I have since removed the rpms as I prefer to compile and install Nvidia's drivers. This time round I did not download the 42.3 dvd and overwrite an existing partition. I usually do that and read the release notes. Instead, the repos were changed to 42.3 and "zypper dup" used to upgrade. I did not read the release notes. Made a mental note to read release notes in future. Thank you both for your help and guidance. As ever, this list invariably helps resolve problems. Just a final followup. drm-kmp-* package was marked as "taboo" in yast / zypper to ensure it not installed automatically. While upgrading, zypper installed drm package which then broke Nvidia with no access to graphical screen. -- Sudhir Anand -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
