Greetings I'm having a problem with a pc, when I issue the reboot command the pc hangs with the message LD.LINKER.SO error or something like that. I downloaded kernel 2.4.2 from suse ftp but the problem persist anyone has any idea why this happens?
Hi, Just upgraded a machine from 7.1 to 7.2 via Yast2 (getting better each release). About three quarters of the way through, just before it does a reboot, I had an error saying "Error Occurred while calling Lilo". After several 'retries', I selected 'error logging', and got a message "Fatal: write /boot/map~ : No space Left on Device", the only option left was 'cancel', which after pressing, Yast2 continued with the install. Once finished, it seams like the 2.4 kernel was only partially installed. None of the modules can be found. I Tried to reinstall the kernel from Yast, but after a reboot, Lilo stops at "LI". Help <g> Its 3.40am and I need this running by 9am? Cheers Phil

I have managed to get the new kernel RPM installed, by clearing out some old files in /boot/. The problem now is it seams I have deleted something I should not have (where the recycle bin <g>). When configuring Lilo, it says "Fatal : open /boot/boot.b : No such file or directory" Any ideas? Cheers Phil

Hi,
re-install the lilo package.
Thanks, that works, although I have now lost the nice 'graphical' boot screen that 7.2 includes (anyone know how to get this back?). Yast2 was very un-user friendly in this problem, but Yast1 was much more descriptive in it's error messages, so I did eventually get it fixed. Many thanks.... Cheers Phil
I think you have to add this to /etc/lilo.conf: vga=771 -- Rafael

Yep, take a look in your /boot directory. There should be a file called message in it. In the global part of your lilo.conf put the following line message=/boot/message Next time you reboot, Tux will be there. There is also a way to convert other pictures to this format. The docs are in usr/share/doc/packages/lilo. Hope this helps. Mike -- Powered by SuSE 7.1, Kernel 2.4.4 KDE2.1.1 For a great linux portal try http://www.freezer-burn.org

It seams that was one of the files I deleted in order to fit the new kernal on. Is it any where to be found on the SuSE disks? Cheers Phil
