Hi, Someone asked about Cable TV cards. I was wondering if there are any PVR cards that work with linux (specifically SuSE 9.1). I'd like to be able to run something like MythTV on my computer. I'm not sure if the chipset in the current Hauppauge cards is supported and I'm also not sure if the 2.6 kernel is supported yet. Thanks, Steve

The Hauppauge PVR 250/350 cards work fine. I'm using a 350 in a 9.0 box running Freevo. Are you running a 2.4 kernel or 2.6? Thanks, Steve

2.4, but I will be updating to 2.6 at some point. I have heard that it works fine in 2.6. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAs7Fd4U2uQswGyDcRAqfwAJ4tfwkbG3a3auoC9/XDOS/KOs4FVwCg0wjB Y8bwM4BGWyd9hcYI0xnxdKA= =2aGd -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I'm using a 350 in a 9.0 box when I first looked at PVR cards 1.5 years ago, I thought the Hauppauge 250 was a great card because it did its own hardware compression so it didn't require such a fast computer. I had been borrowing a friends ATI Radeon 7500 All-In-Wonder card. When I got the Hauppauge, I was really disgusted. The picture quality of a video CD file recorded with the Hauppauge was noticeably inferior to the same format recorded with the ATI product. It has been a while since I did that test but I think the DVD format was also much better with the ATI card. I was so disappointed with the Hauppauge card that I took it back to the store and got a Radeon 8500DV All-In-Wonder and have been very pleased with it. Then that was all with Windows XP but I am working (slowly) on getting that to work with SuSE

Something was seriously screwed up in your setup. The MPEG generated by my PVR-350 is indistinguishable from broadcast. I did mess with the settings to change the stream type and increase the bitrate, though. I also have a Bt878 card, which is what you have in your AIW. The quality is terrible, comparably. I think you may have been using the wrong software. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAtJ724U2uQswGyDcRAssKAKCz+7OkJnhNM8SpNg0F65ZwTqwROACffKzk V/KgQZPsBrnLngkxqlJcQ/o= =ZPE7 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
