Re: [SLE] Can't login as my normal user
users and only 1 doesn't log in correctly, then it sounds like the window configuration file for that user got corrupted somehow.
Jeff
I did try gnome as well as KDE. I can log in at the command line, it's just "startx" that fails and returns me to the command line, with no errors shown.
Other users work fine.
Did you look for clues in /var/log/XFree86.0.log or /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Jeff
Yep, first place I looked. It happened along with the DSL install, but I don't believe the two things are related. Jim

I'm afraid I'm out of ideas on this one. Maybe someone else can help. Jeff

Can you log in at init 3 with that same user? Might be a corruption of the user account. -- /Rikard --------------------------------------------------------------- Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com/users/rikjoh Mob : +46 735 05 51 01 PGP : 0x461CEE56 ---------------------------------------------------------------

Actually, he gets the login screen, but can't log in as the usual user.

Perhaps what he should try, is to temporarily move the .kde directory out of his home directory or rename it. Then try starting the desktop. If it now opens, that gives him some clues as to where to look for the problem. He might also try Gnome or other desktop too.
