I have participated in a few newsgroup creations in the past for OS/2 stuff and had decided at one point to reflect a mailing list to a newsgroup. This never happened though. Each approach had its advantages. I would vote for a reflected mailing list to newsgroup approach personally.
Hi, a NG would be fine, but a ML is much easier to use. I'm thinking of all the newbies who might get confused by all the new things to use and to learn. Mail is easy to handle and most of the Internet users know how to do it. Of cause newsgroups are also easy to use (for us...), but my experience shows that most newbies find it difficult to read and post news and get confused about nntp servers etc, and they rather have mails... So the only way to have a NG (IMHO) is to have a bidirectional gateway between this list and the newsgroup. And this will possibly bring us a lot of spams on this list. So I suppose the best way for those of you, who want to have a newsgroup, may be to set up a local news server at your site and feed the mail into this server (either by subscribing a special user or by setting up a procmail filter to do this). If you need a mail2news skript, I can give you the one we are using to archive the lists as news groups...
