You can try installing the libhd package and running hwinfo. This is the hardware detection library YaST2 uses. It's a little more verbose than YaST2 and could give you a clue what's going wrong. It helped me to find out that YaST2 was choking while trying to detect my modem. After unplugging it, YaST2 worked.
