Can't print from some apps SUSE 10
Hi Just installed SUSE 10 and find I cannot print from Abiword or Open Office. The printer (Canon BJC4300) has worked fine with SUSE for a number of years and will print a test page and from kwrite and Acrobat Reader. I have never had to do anything beyond setting up the printer in YAST before to enable priniting from all apps. I've looked at the settings in KPrinter but all seem ok. Any clues anyone please ? Thanks Mike

My printer is a HP DeskJet 840C and I've just printed an abiword doc I have had around for a few years, so it may be a problem specific to your printer. Up and running 10.0 upgrade from 9.3 about 3 hours ago, with a couple of hitches that are now fixed, the 10.0 x86_64 upgrade on Monday went without a hitch. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Sid I've had the printer for about 7 years. It's worked with all SUSE versions since 6.1. Problem is it now won't print with 10.0 with non kde apps, which was not the case before, 9.3 was fine. FWIW I can run Kanotix and print from non kde apps. Perhaps its a bug with SUSE 10 Mike

That's what I meant to say, a bug in 10.0 affecting your particular printer. I've found a bug in "cal" - buffer overflow, but can't file it as the form on the site doesn't play well with firefox or may be it just doesn't work. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Mike, Is this a parallel port printer? If so, did you happen to take the time to read a bit of news about parallel printers after 10 installed? Probably not, but it should still be on the CD/DVD and may help to enlighten you on this. I'm sorry, I don't remember exactly what it said, but did mention problems with some parallel port printers. I have a HP960C myself attached via the parallel port and it failed to work after install. Everything was set correctly in YaST2, but until I turned both the printer & computer off, it wouldn't print. After rebooting and all reintialized, everything worked. Don't know if that might be your problem, that things need to reset, just thought I would mention those two. end of line Lee -- --- KMail v1.8.3 --- SuSE Linux Pro v10.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206 Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year.

Lee Yes it is a parallel port printer. I haven't seen the news, I'll look it up, is it in the release notes ? It will print a test page but will not print from Abiword or Open Office. I'll try switching off and restarting as well. Mike

Answering my own question this is from Release Notes : Using Parallel Port Printers Reboot may be required after setting up a parallel port printer with YaST. If printing does not work when a parallel port printer was set up with YaST, reboot then do not run the YaST printer setup for testing. Only parallel port printers in ECP DMA mode are affected. Doesn't help my problem, nor did swithching off and restarting, but at least Kword will open and print Abiword docs. Anybody else still have one of these printers and using it with SUSE 10 ? Mike
