I believe that I have seen written here that only *read* is supported. What does fstab show you, read/write or read only? -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Well I sure hope it's ro, since I selected "read only" in the yast advanced options 8-)... If I set it to RW, what are the chances of corrupting my NTFS? THe is no data to be lost, but... On this laptop I only got recovery cd's and they will wipe out my linux also, so it would be a major pain if the NTFS got corrupted... Is the NTFS files system out of BETA? Jerry

I believe that I would either play safe or reclaim the wasted (windoz) space.
Is the NTFS files system out of BETA?
guess you will have to google for that. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

It is, not just because of the settings but because of the kernel module it uses.

AFAIK, none. It is a kernel module, and I have never seen the write enabled in a SuSE kernel. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

I have dual booted a Windows 2000 Server system with various Linux distros for some time, all of which could mount the NTFS file system, but as read only, never as write. It is a function of the kernel.

Okay, after googling and reading this is the answer I came up with: No, NTFS write is not supported. Jerry

Okay, after googling and reading this is the answer I came up with:
No, NTFS write is not supported.
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/filesystems/ntfs.txt calls write support "very limited, but safe", implying it is there and it won't destroy your data, but you won't get all the features of an ntfs file system.

I suggest you have a look at the following package. Captive: The first free NTFS read/write filesystem for GNU/Linux http://www.jankratochvil.net/project/captive/ Apparently there are RPM's for SuSE 9.0 & 9.1 -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------
