Does anybody know a good replacement for Access database in the Linux environment? It can be also a flat file database, if there is no relational database.
The basic problem is one of user interface. In free or nearly-free databases MySQL is reasonable if you use the 3rd-party "X" tools, but not near as easy to use as Access. The easiest to use seems to be QDDB, which has a bunch of TCL/TK based tools for browsing tables etc. Unfortunately we don't seem to have a good commercial "all in one" database user interface tool like Access for Linux. The closest is Personal Empress, but it is more programmer-oriented than end-user oriented. (Still more end-user oriented than Adabas-D, though).
