[opensuse] Konica-Minolta PagePro 1400W printer
Have any of you used this machine with SuSE 9/3, using the driver available on the net, named "Minolta-PagePro_1400W- min12xxw.ppd" and found it to work without any screwing around? Tiger has a sale on them. Or if there's a different driver, then what is it, and how does it work? Remember, I'm using 9.3, for the simple reason that email doesn't work right on 10.0. (That apparently means that CUPS doesn't work right either, or maybe not at all, in 9.3, according to some correspondence on this forum.) I expect to stay with 9.3 until 10.3 has proven itself--or not. Thanx, guys and gals-- doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Since ppd stands for Postscript Printer Description it is platform independent and should work straight out of the box.

As far as I recall that correspondence has been generated by yourself only. I know of no one else having had unsolvable CUPS problems in 9.3 Regards, -- Jos van Kan registered Linux user #152704 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanx for the replies, guys. Even tho the refurb price was excellent, the reviews on this machine are not (print quality, both text and image) and I've decided not to pursue it. Probably when 10.3 comes out, if it works OK, I can use my big HP Laserjet again. --doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Of course as usual no info what "available on the net" means. I don't want to guess from which exact URL you downloaded what so that I can only give you the general hint that a PPD file is not a driver, see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell We provide /usr/bin/min12xxw in our "filters" package but we neither have nor buy such GDI printers to test it, see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:GDI_Printers Kind Regards Johannes Meixner -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, 90409 Nuernberg, Germany AG Nuernberg, HRB 16746, GF: Markus Rex -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
