[opensuse] rename wlan1 to wlan0?
Hello, After changing my active wireless card, I found that while everything works, I have a wlan1 and no wlan0. How do I change the name of the interface to wlan0? Yast does not seem to offer a change in Network settings. Check /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. You may have wlan0 assigned to the MAC address of the old card, and wlan1 assigned to the MAC address of the new. If that's the case, delete the wlan0 line, change the wlan1 line to read wlan0, and restart the network. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." The option to change is there - once in "yast lan", edit wlan1, switch to tab "Hardware", in the upper left corner you'll see "Udev rules", with the option to change the device name. If I remember correctly the above applies only if you use wicked. If network manager is used there is no any "easy option" to change the card name, only the hack Felix wrote. I say hack because editing udev rules is beyond what what can be expected from a normal user. Network manager should have an option for it. By the way, thanks Felix, I will give a try to what you wrote. I have the same problem, I moved my HD from one computer to another and the new network card got new number. Did not know how to change it in network manager. Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

What Felix described is what YaST does for you anyway.

A normal user wouldn't have much reason to care about what name her network interface has. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (14.3°C) http://www.cloudsuisse.com/ - your owncloud, hosted in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You mean the change button doesn't work? It's on the hardware tab. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for the several hints on this thread, notably this one and the one by Per Jessen. I have found the option and while it took a reboot to get the network working again. all seems fine now. -- Yours, Mikhail Ramendik Unless explicitly stated, all opinions in my mail are my own and do not reflect the views of any organization -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
