I once had a problem like the one you are having. I found that I needed to put a -defaultroute after pppd to get it to set up

I later installed the KDE and found kppp to be very easy to configure and use. If you are not using the KDE, try it. There are some purests here who have good political reasons not to use the KDE. What can I say? I'm a GPL sinner. The biggest reason I have for using

I am not running it in the correct visual mode or something. Also the screen goes aweful and it says it's running it in monocrome mode or something. It says to check the available visual modes using xdpyinfo and run netscape with the command line '-visual'. Does anyone know what this is all about and how I can fix it? I didn't get anything like this in slackware. Obviously I am not connecting to anywhere.

saying something about likely set to 8bpp or 24

bpp try 16 bpp. As I understand it, there is a bug in Netscape that causes this problem. you can change this setting by running XF86Setup and going to mode selection.

We are. Many here are far more helpful than I, because they know a lot more. We will be far more helpful if you change your name form "suse linux" :-D

I hope some of this helps, and don't forget to take a look at the ppp and chat related How-to's and man pages if you still have problems. One of the how-to's has a good write up on how to manualy connect using minicom. I learned a lot from doing this. You may want to attempt this yourself.
