[opensuse] openSUSE 13.2 snapper elimination
Hello: This is openSUSE 13.2 with its default btrfs file system. I've been hit second time by the 'no space left on device' error at boot. My system has become unstable during work and when I tried to reboot it the error message appeared. Last time I could fix it by deleting some snapshots using snapper command. I cannot recall how I did it exactly, I found the necessary information on openSUSE forums. I have also edited my /etc/snapper/configs/root file as someone suggested on the forum: NUMBER_LIMIT="10" changed to NUMBER_LIMIT="1" NUMBER_LIMIT_IMPORTANT="10" changed to NUMBER_LIMIT_IMPORTANT="2" Now I would like to get rid of this snapper thing for good. I envisioned three options and would appreciate if received suggestions how to do them (option 1 and 2): 1. Disabling snapper completely. I don't want to keep any snapshots. 2. Convert/transfer an oS 13.2 installation on btrfs to ext3/4 file system. Is this doable? What directories do I have to transfer? (3. Abandon oS 13.2 and go to oS 13.1. I know how to do this.) snapper list to know, snapper delete x-y to remove snapshot from x to y

4mnot sure it's a snapper feature (or a btrfs one), but I would like to know. my install is full of software (because I try anything before answering questions or reading posts), so very large updates also I have limits set to zero and list shows only one pre and one post

not sure. I don't seems possible to change btrfs->ext4 in place I don't install btrfs anymore, but moving / is always tricky jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

After the second data-loss of BTRFS, I simply backed up everything and nuked it and started over. There is supposed to be a way to return to ext4, but with an out of space condition, I wouldn't try it. I've sworn off BTRFS for a couple of releases. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It is possible to disable snapper when installing oS 13.2. Mike -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Then what is the purpose/advantage of having BTRFS to begin with? Some blistering speed advantage? (uhm.. no) Superior data loss prevention? (obviously not) ?? -- David C. Your guess is as good as mine... Mike -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
