Thu, 05 Mar 1998 09:18:19 +0100 Btw. is it good or bad to have CD as SCSI id 0? It seems my controller wants CD on this ID to be able to boot. The reason I ask is that I see many people have the CD as highest ID (in my case that would be 2, as I have 3 SCSI devices connected)
It seems strange. Normally, a SCSI controller looks to boot from a
0 or 1; and, normally on a machine which boots from a SCSI drive rather
a bootable Linux partition needs to be on a disk with ID 0 or 1. Normal
At 07:52 1998-03-05 CST, you wrote: partition on a device at ID than an (E)IDE drive, practice is to give a
SCSI CDROM player a high SCSI ID (5, 6, or 7).
Let me clarify: ID 0 or 1 is to be able to boot off the CD, not to boot from harddisk. Sorry for being unclear on that... However, my problems with jerky CD audio remains, and though not needed for my system to function, I find it irritating (mostly because crappy win95 handles the CD just fine, and lovely linux not)... I wonder if this problem arose as the Tekram driver became "official"... The old driver I used (which seems to be basically the same code) was an unofficial kernel patch I got from tekram ftp...
