[opensuse] wicked/dhcp fails when network isn't connected ?
I'm not sure, so before I open a report, does anyone recognize this scenario: A system has an interface (eth0) configured with dhcp. The system is rebooted, but eth0 is not connected to anything. Obviously any dhcp requests will fail until the cable is plugged in. However, when I plug in the cable, the interface does not acquire an address. I have to manually if-down/up it. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (3.9°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Do you have it set as "on cable connect"? -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No, it's on "at boot time" (default afaik), but it should still get an IP address when the cable is plugged in. Well, at least that's how my other systems work. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (1.9°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Whenever I have a connection that uses DHCP, I set it to on cable connect, if possible. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I never have, it's superfluous. Most of my internal boxes use DHCP. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (2.0°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I guess that may be due to what I found I needed at work, where I was plugging my computer into many different systems and finding myself with the wrong address. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, that would make a lot of sense - have dhcp restarted whenever the interface changes state (plugged/unplugged). -- Per Jessen, Zürich (-1.4°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
