If I once open /media/dvdram using a Konqueror window, I am unable to eject the DVD-drive so long as that Window is open -- this is somewhat understandable. (Another OS allows eject and closes the window displaying its content -- but I am not saying Linux should behave like that.) But even after I have closed the tab which was used to read the DVDRAM, until I have completely closed the window (which may contain lots of other tabs) I am not allowed to eject the DVDRAM drive. This is very inconvenient if I find I have inserted the wrong DVD to browse and I have to replace it with another. Do I report this bug (wishlist) at Novell or KDE? -- Tux #395953 resides at http://samvit.org playing with KDE 3.51 on SUSE Linux 10.0 $ date [] CCE +2006-03-02 W09-4 UTC+0530

Could this be due to the drive being listed as 'sync' in the fstab file?
No sync: /dev/dvdram /media/dvdram subfs fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0 -- Tux #395953 resides at http://samvit.org playing with KDE 3.51 on SUSE Linux 10.0 $ date [] CCE +2006-03-02 W09-4 UTC+0530

It's for the wish-list and has more to do with the kernel than the actual distro.
The *kernel* monitors whether an active application is accessing the DVD drive or not? When I close the Konqueror window, I am able to open the disc. Does the kernel know about the window being closed? -- Tux #395953 resides at http://samvit.org playing with KDE 3.51 on SUSE Linux 10.0 $ date [] CCE +2006-03-02 W09-4 UTC+0530

Have you tried typing "eject cdrom" on a command line?
Wow! I did not know this existed. It even works for "eject dvdram". -- Tux #395953 resides at http://samvit.org playing with KDE 3.51 on SUSE Linux 10.0 $ date [] CCE +2006-03-03 W09-5 UTC+0530
