Or will only rpm's made especially for suse linux work? won't the different file system between redhat and suse make redhat rpms different from suse rpms? or am i way off base here? and now, what i really want... where can i get a gcc2.8 rpm for suse linux? thanks. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at <A HREF="http://www.hotmail.com"><A HREF="http://www.hotmail.com</A">http://www.hotmail.com</A</A>> - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Rpms from other libc5 based dists (Redhat 4.2, Caldera) will work on S.u.S.E. provided that the install paths are compatible with the S.u.S.E. directory tree. Do not use Redhat srpms. Use alien to convert these to tgz format. Erwon Chan wrote:

You can query rpms that aren't installed to see what changes they'd make to your system. One command you can use is rpm -qpil <filename>. This will tell you what it would install and give some info on the package. Pipe it to less if it scrolls off the screen. libc5 rpms will work on S.u.S.E. 5.2. RH uses glibc. I hear 5.3 has support for glibc binaries but I haven't installed 5.3 yet. -M One is most dishonest towards one's God; he is not _permitted_ to sin. mail: mjohnson@pop3.aebc.com - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
