SuSE 9.0 pro - ThinkPad X24 - wireless
Hi, Installing SuSE was very easy. But there is some problems. No ACPI. But APM works when I boot with ACPI =OFF parameter. Second problem is that I can not use wireless with DHCP. When I disable DHCP and enter machine IP, Gateway and DNS servers manually everything works. But when I configure it to use DHCP, there is no route and no DNS (because when I enter route manually I can ping outside but cannot go with url's).. Where I must start to find out what is wrong and how can I correct that. With eth0 there is no such problems. It gets all from DHCP correct. But when I connect cable in before starting PC or restart PC with cable connected, sometimes computer hangs on getting info from DHCP. Could it be DHCP server (SMC Barricade router) problem. Thanks. Could it be that your sever is not using DHCP? Sounds like you have a static setup to me, if you can enter your info manually and it works. DHCP is not useful, I don't believe, with static IPs. Someone correct me if that is not correct. Lee -- --- KMail v1.5.4 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

DHCP is working. On boot I see that Wireless card gets IP from DHCP. eth0 also gets IP fro DHCP without problems (and route and DNS). It's seems that wireless can not get route and DNS. Or SuSE can not write or update the file which is responsible for route and DNS. Well, wireless with DHCP is big problem and the only one that keeps Windows XP Pro on my ThinkPad X24 (on X30 I can not get wireless card working - it is Cisco Aironnet, it is supported in linux, but in SuSE 9.0 pro no go; but that is different story). I was struggling with my TP30 and built in Aironet
card and SuSe 8.2. Use the latest Cisco driver and
ACU, make sure your Aironet fw is not higher then
5.00.03 as everything above it is broken with Linux.
If you had your Aironet working in Windows on the same
machine, ACU most likely upgraded your fw
automatically.
I've found good 'howto' link where you can get
modified Cisco driver which should support more stuff
and doesn't require ACU anymore.
