Hi all, I used to have a daemon (or was it a cronjob?) that made my linuxbox connect to a special site on the internet once in a while (everyday i think) and adjust it's time. I've lost it somehow and I can't find it anymore. I don't think it was xntp, but maybe it was. Where do I have to look? thanx, Jeroen Verstegen jeroen@jota.nl www.jota.nl -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
xntp is the network time protocol daemon, while rdate or ntpdate can be used to initially set time, xntp keeps the time accurate once your system is running... look for ntp.conf file in /etc. -Herman Jeroen Verstegen wrote:

I would recommend that you check www.ntp.org, follow the link to public time servers, then download/use rdate -s <time.server.name> I put that line to my /etc/rc.d/boot.local script and it works great. --Jyry -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Hi Jeroen, I syncronise my time every time I go online. (got a cron job running that will fetch mail after 4 housr of silence) This runs for quite a while now without trouble: I put the following in my /etc/ppp/ip-up script (for ip-up) #Timeserver der RWTH Aachen /usr/sbin/netdate -v 137.226.144.3 137.226.112.21 /sbin/clock -wu this fetches the time and sets the hw clock. My hwclock runs on GMT, daylight saving disabled. Can't say more, it's one of the many tips I collected myself. Thanks for this useful information. I wanted to do this too. Damon Register -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
