RPM - rebuilding packages
How do I rebuild an RPM based package? I've installed apache from an RPM but need to add the pthreads option to it for Oracle database access. Do I just install the source RPM and then what? Does it pick up the configuration I have in place and allow me to extend it? I'm running SuSE 8.0 kernel 2.4.18 thanks Ahbaid

Install the source rpm, edit (as root) the /usr/src/packages/SPEC/(package name, i.e. apache).spec. You may need to change the ./configure line for example. Then, save your changes, and as root rpm -bb --target=i586 xxx.spec (target is to optimize for your hardware, replace xxx with package name). You will find your new rpm in /usr/src/packages/RPM/ix86 (depending on target). You might want to increase the release number in the spec file as well to allow rpm to realize this is an 'update'.
