Re: [SuSE Linux] IP firewall and masquerading
Hi: Thank you so much for your quick reply. From: Computer Mailing Lists <x@sjbcbb.cncfamily.com> Date: Saturday, November 21, 1998 9:15 PM
The documentation is a bit sparse, but fortunately for a typical setup all you need to do is set up a few variable via Yast.
My home configuration is probably very typical, a private 192.168 ethernet network at home and a PPP dialout. The home machines are to be masqueraded upon the PPP line. All that is required is:
FW_START = "yes" FW_LOCALNETS = "192.168.1.0/24" MSQ_START = "yes" MSQ_NETWORKS = "192.168.1.0/24" MSQ_DEV = "ppp0"
I'm definitely missing something here. I have resorted to altering the /etc/rc.config files manually, because I don't find the yast items that allow this specification. Also just read someone's comments about adding a printer via yast, and I don't find that either. I'm runing SuSE 5.3.... maybe I'm behind????
The rest was all defaults. This email is being composed on my Mac, while the dialout was done by the Linux base machine.
Thanks, I'm still playing with it. Now having trouble with my modem, but I'm sure it's not Linux-related. I definitely appreciate the guidance.
